Saratoga Springs, New York (August 7, 2006): Expansive learning, gorgeous weather, and modest winnings made for another exceptional Lean Six Sigma forum last Friday, August 4th, as XONITEK Corporation once again called together its intimate group of clients and associates for the Lean Six Sigma Symposium and Saratoga Race Course Outingin Albany and Saratoga Springs, New York. The 2006 agenda deviated from its traditionally single speaker forum to encompass a multi-dimensional rhetoric, with three speakers focusing on the principles of the Lean Six Sigma doctrine as applied to real business needs: both through case study and technological facilitation.

After appearing  briefly to convene the day with a brief overview of the Lean Six Sigma methodology, XONITEK President Joe Paris turned the podium over to Salvatore Ganino, Lean Six Sigma Specialist, XONITEK Consulting Services Group. As a 40 year veteran of the Operations Management field, Ganino was able to relay an entourage of personal experience in Lean implementation in the form of case study presentation. His discussion, “Intricacies in Creating a Lean Enterprise: Case Studies at a Glance,” focused on how the practice of utilizing the Lean Six Sigma principles positions business entities in both service and production sectors to be highly efficient, profitable, and ultimately, to be exceptionally competitive. “For Lean to be a success,” stressed Ganino, “it has to permeate every aspect of the business. There can’t be a ruler on high saying ‘this sounds like a good idea, we should do it.’ Lean has to be an absolute evangelical assimilation into the soul.”

Ganino’s sophisticated enthusiasm was equally matched by Mike Borzumate, a fellow Lean Six Sigma Specialist in the XONITEK Consulting Services group, who presented, “Unlocking the Potential: Technological Tools to Enable Process Analysis.” Leveraging a dynamic combination of consulting and technical experience, Borzumate presented a real time simulation of the technological dimension of the Lean Six Sigma roundtable. The discussion featured the role of technology in simulating process changes associated with Lean Six Sigma, and how these tools, when used strategically, can accurately project the effect of the respective changes before they are set in motion.

In the final segment, “Why Lean Six Sigma Fails: The Pitfalls of Corporate Culture,” Paris called attention to the obstacles related to the implementation and sustained practice of Lean Six Sigma methodologies, and primarily the existence of “fiefdoms.” “The degree to which an organization is successful with Lean Six Sigma is strongly determined by its willingness and ability to minimize, if not eliminate, the fiefdoms and politics within,” explained Paris. “Fiefdoms do not only corrupt and jeopardize the vitality and overall performance of an organization; they squelch innovation, and ultimately destroy an organization’s ability to grow and produce.”

Following the Symposium, the red awnings of the Clubhouse Turf Terrace at the Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga , New York , housed nearly thirty cohorts for an afternoon of casual networking, delectable refreshments, and promising wagers. Among the prestigious executives in attendance was Merger & Acquisition expert David Deutsch, Founder, David N. Deutsch & Company, who traveled from New York City to participate in the event. “The [day] highlighted the universal applicability of six sigma [and] lean process optimization techniques in a sophisticated-yet-accessible way,” commented Deutsch. “It was great content, delivered in a concise half-day format, by a top-notch and a genuinely good group of people. Every minute of the presentation was worthwhile. As for the track… it was a very warm and gracious gathering.”

The Lean Six Sigma Symposium and Track Outing has become an annual XONITEK excursion, held religiously on the first Friday of August, and renown throughout the firm’s network for the tactical coupling of education and recreation that it promotes.
